NC varnishes, also known as nitrocellulose varnishes, are versatile solutions for the furniture industry. Their field of use covers the entire furniture manufacturing sector, particularly for components exposed to normal wear. These varnishes provide a high-quality, smooth, and aesthetically pleasing finish with various gloss levels, available in both clear and colored versions.

Compliance with standards

The NC varnishes produced by KNEHO comply with the requirements of DIN EN 71 Part 3 (toy safety) and DIN 68861 Part 1C (surface resistance to chemical substances) standards.

Types of nitrocellulose varnishes

NC primers

Base primers for preparing wooden surfaces.

Multilayer NC varnishes

Versatile varnishes that can be applied in multiple layers for a durable finish.

NC varnishes with wax effect

Provides a warm, satin appearance similar to a natural wax finish.

Hard NC varnishes

Increased wear resistance for frequently used surfaces.

Scratch-resistant NC varnishes

Application instructions

Surface preparation

The surface must be clean, dry, and properly sanded. Remove sanding dust before application. For open-pore wood, it is recommended to apply a filling primer.

Application

NC varnishes can be applied by spraying, brushing, or immersion, depending on the product type and technical specifications. It is recommended to apply 2–3 coats, with fine intermediate sanding between layers.

Drying and finishing

The drying time varies between 20–60 minutes at room temperature (20 °C), depending on the type of varnish. Intermediate sanding can be performed after 1–2 hours. Final hardness is achieved after 24–48 hours.
